what next? (part 5)

Ok I’ve been lazy.  Although technically it has been less “lazy”, more “the weather has been fantastic so I want to be outside playing instead of inside cooking” but I promise I’ll be better!  As punishment, I’m going to try to give some really challenging options for me and you all will get to choose how to make me earn back your readership.  I have never made any of these items and they all will require several steps and possibly some new equipment (oh darn…more kitchen stuff).

  1. Macarons – of the french variety, like you would find in Paris at a patisserie.  They are one of my favorite treats and they cost an obscene amount for one cookie at Paul Bakery (now open in DC!!)  so making them would probably be of great savings to me.  Probably would make a chocolate one with a ganache filling.
  2. Chicken Pot Pie – with real, homemade crust.  Roasted chicken.  Veggies.  Gravy.  Everyone knows what it is and has eaten it but how many of us have actually made the whole thing with the crust and all that specialness?
  3. Chocolate-Amaretto Semifreddo – semifreddo is a fancy Italian word for sorta frozen.  It’s a creamy, frozen dessert with almonds and cherries.  Requires a chocolate creme anglaise (aka chocolate custard)
  4. Crabcake Benedict – probably the biggest pain of all the recipes and paying homage to my current mid-Atlantic home.  Requires a crabcake, a poached egg and Hollandaise sauce.  None of which I have ever made. (This one is for cookingkozey)

So go ahead…make me work for it!
